Radio

I hold a 2nd-class land special radio operator license and a 4th-class amateur radio license. I got them to run FPV digital video transmitters legally, and somewhere along the way radio itself became fascinating.

What I am exploring now is Meshtastic, a LoRa-based mesh network. Long-range communication with no internet has real potential in disaster response and off-grid use.

I also try radio-related hacks on small ESP32 handhelds like the M5Stack Cardputer. Understanding how radio works has made both FPV and drone operation far more enjoyable.

Radio sits between drones and electronics for me. FPV involves both sides of a video link; ESP32 projects let me write software that handles communication. What began as learning for a flying machine has grown into an interest in connecting small devices.

My Meshtastic work is still experimental. This introduction describes my interests and prototypes, not measured field range or verified reliability in disaster response. I want to record what my own setup can do, which changes affect the results, and the conditions of each test.
